| Fast Growth Confirmed of Hawaii Businesses - 10/22/2006
A U.S. Labor Department analysis of the latest monthly employment figures finds Hawaii had the highest percentage job growth in the nation at 0.7 percent. Nevada, Utah and North Dakota tied for second place, each with 0.6 percent more employment. Hawaii gained 4,400 jobs in September alone, expanding the work force to 623,800, an increase of 17,700 from a year earlier. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday that 31 states registered jobless rate decreases during September when the national unemployment rate held at 4.6 percent. Hawaii again had the lowest jobless rate in the nation at 2.5 percent, down two-tenths from the month before, while Utah was second lowest at 2.8 percent
