Free credit reports to be available to Hawaii consumers

Starting Wednesday, consumers in Hawaii will be able to request a free copy of their credit report.

And nation's three consumer credit reporting companies -- Equifax, Experian and TransUnion -- said they have simplified the process for them.

The three companies jointly unveiled Tuesday their centralized credit report request service: www.Annualcreditreport.com, to process requests for free credit reports.

The companies said that the secure site is exclusively for consumers requesting their one free credit report every 12 months under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act.

The federal regulation makes free credit reports available to U.S. consumers in phases, starting Dec. 1.

For the first phase, consumers can get a free copy of their credit report if they live in any one of 13 states: Hawaii, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
